Broadway Celebrates Juneteenth is a free outdoor concert event centered around Black artistry and unity. Created by and featuring Black performers and allies, the concert includes a variety of Broadway performers showcasing their talent and uniqueness with works of art. Included in the festivities is the presentation of the annual Legacy Award, given to esteemed Black artists for their incredible community involvement and astounding achievements on Broadway.

Broadway Celebrates Juneteenth 2024
The fourth annual Broadway Celebrates Juneteenth concert took place in Times Square on Wednesday, June 19th from 11:00am – 12:30pm. Michael James Scott hosted. Flagstar Bank was the presenting sponsor. he 2024 Juneteenth Legacy Award was presented to two-time Tony Award winner Phylicia Rashad. The concert featured more than 35 performers from the following 17 Broadway shows: Aladdin; & Juliet; Back to the Future: The Musical; Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club; Chicago; Harry Potter and the Cursed Child; The Heart of Rock and Roll; Hell’s Kitchen; Illinoise; The Lion King; MJ; Moulin Rouge! The Musical;The Notebook; Suffs; Water for Elephants; The Who’s Tommy; The Wiz; and the return of the kids of Young Gifted and Broadway. All performances were accompanied by live music thanks to The Music Performance Trust Fund and the Film Funds. American Sign Language interpretation was provided.
Joining The Broadway League in partnership for Broadway Celebrates Juneteenth was Black Theatre United (BTU), Black Theatre Coalition (BTC), The New York Times, and the Times Square Alliance. Black Theatre United curated a selection of Black-owned restaurants to take part in the celebration by selling food and treats to attendees. Kokomo, LaMode BK, and Brooklyn Sweet Spot were on-site with a selection of delicious options to add to the festivity. Flagstar Bank was the 2024 presenting sponsor of Broadway Celebrates Juneteenth. The third annual Broadway Celebrates Juneteenth concert took place in Times Square on Sunday, June 18th, hosted by Michael James Scott. Live music was provided by The Music Performance Trust Fund and Film Funds. The 2023 Juneteenth Legacy Award was presented to Tony Award-winning director Kenny Leon, recognized for his notable impact on Broadway and his commitment to working on projects that involve educational, philanthropic, and advocacy efforts. Creative and production teams included Steve H. Broadnax III as Director and Writer, Rashad McPherson as Music Director, Brian Moreland and Aaliytha Stevens as Executive Producers as well as Co-Chairs of The Broadway League’s Multi-Cultural Task Force, Jhanaë Bonnick as Stage Manager, and Devon Miller of Foresight Theatrical as General Manager.

Broadway Celebrates Juneteenth returned to Times Square on Sunday, June 19, 2022, with Tony Award®-winner James Monroe Iglehart as host. The 2022 event included the inaugural presentation of the Juneteenth Legacy Awards honoring Leslie Uggams and Ben Vereen. Music was provided by The Music Performance Trust Fund. The creative and production team included Steve H. Broadnax III as Director and Writer, Rashad McPherson as Music Director, Brian Moreland and Aaliytha Stevens as Executive Producers, Nzinga Williams and Devon Miller of Foresight Theatrical as General Managers, and Jhanaë Bonnick as Stage Manager.
Broadway Celebrates Juneteenth 2021
The Broadway League’s Black to Broadway Initiative presented Broadway Celebrates Juneteenth, a free outdoor event centered around Black joy and unity that featured Black Broadway performers in a 90-minute concert. This inaugural event, which was sponsored by MAC Cosmetics and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS with the support of the Times Square Alliance, took place in Times Square on Saturday, June 19, 2021. Lillias White hosted the event, with a special appearance by Ben Vereen. The creative and production team included Steve H. Broadnax III as Director, Daryl Waters as Music Director, Nzinga Williams as General Manager, and Cody Renard Richard as Stage Manager.
