¡VIVA! BROADWAY: ayer, hoy y mañana.

September 15 – October 15, 2024

In partnership with the Museum of Broadway,  ¡Viva! Broadway® comes to life in a special exhibit to celebrate Latiné and Hispanic heritage on Broadway. The ¡VIVA! BROADWAY: ayer, hoy y mañana exhibit will be open to the public on September 15, 2024 at The Museum of Broadway in NYC’s Times Square, and run through October 15, 2024. Visitors will get the chance to see iconic pieces from favorite Broadway shows up close. The month will also feature a range of special events and panel discussions with distinguished Broadway performers and industry professionals. Visit The Museum of Broadway for more information.

Conceived and directed by Luis Salgado, musical direction by Jaime Lozano, and written by Eric Ulloa, the concert was a celebration of history from the inspiration of early songwriters to the authentic voices and stories of Broadway today.

Viva Broadway Night at Chicago

Chicago joined with The Broadway League to present a ¡Viva! Broadway Night celebrating Latino theatre makers and audiences on Monday, October 18, 2021. Select parts of the show on October 18th were performed in Spanish. The cast of Chicago featured a trio of Latin leads: Ana Villafañe as Roxie Hart, Bianca Marroquín as Velma Kelly and Paulo Szot as Billy Flynn.

A musical celebration of the joy, diversity, and extensive contributions of the Latino Broadway community, the concert was presented on Saturday, September 18, 2021 as part of The Broadway League and Playbill’s Curtain Up! festival. The free concert lifted the incredible history Broadway Latino artists have shared throughout the decades and invited audiences to join in the continued work that lies ahead.

 

¡Viva! Broadway Hear Our Voices presented by Playbill and The Broadway League

Playbill and The Broadway League presented ¡Viva! Broadway Hear Our Voices, a digital concert in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, as well as Latino milestones in theatre. Hosted by Andréa Burns (In the Heights, On Your Feet!), the concert premiered on Thursday, October 1, 2020. ¡Viva! Broadway Hear Our Voices saluted the vibrant, lasting legacy that Latino artists have contributed and continue to give to Broadway and the entire theatre community while showcasing Latino talent in an effort to continue to increase representation throughout the industry. The concert was directed and choreographed by Olivier and Tony Award®-winning director/choreographer Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys, Ain’t Too Proud).

 

¡Viva! Broadway Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with “El Conjunto” Concert Series Hosted by Ana Villafañe

¡Viva! Broadway presented a special Hispanic Heritage Month celebration concert series hosted by Broadway actress and singer Ana Villafañe, known for her role as Gloria Estefan in On Your Feet! The Musical – The Story of Emilio & Gloria Estefan and NBC’s “Sunnyside” and “New Amsterdam.” The cabaret style concert series titled El Conjunto took place at the W Living Room Times Square.

The Broadway League celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with a free outdoor celebration sponsored by Charter and the Hispanic Federation with the support of the Times Square Alliance and Clear Channel Outdoor on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 in Duffy Square. The free outdoor celebration was hosted by singer, actress and National ¡Viva! Broadway Ambassador Bianca Marroquin. The program included performances from current and recent Broadway stars including Kathryn Allison, Ashley De la Rosa, Enrique Segura, Mariand Torres and Ana Villafañe known for her role as Gloria Estefan in On Your Feet! The Musical – The Story of Emilio & Gloria Estefan. In addition, Mandy Gonzalez performed her new single Amor Sin Fronteras, from the album and book, Fandango at the Wall.

The Broadway League kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month with a special free outdoor celebration. Lin-Manuel Miranda and John Leguizamo ( Latin History for Morons) co-hosted the festivities. The program included special guest appearances and performances from current and past Broadway stars including Ana Villafañe and cast members from On Your Feet! The Story of Emilio & Gloria Estefan, Rodney Ingram (The Phantom of the Opera), Emma Pfaeffle (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) and Mandy Gonzalez (Hamilton, pictured above in photo by Jeremy Daniel).

 

Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine: A Benefit Concert for ¡Viva! Broadway

Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine (pictured at left, photo by Jeremy Daniel) returned to New York City to perform a special concert comprising their greatest hits including: “Get On Your Feet,” “Conga,” “Rhythm is Gonna Get You,” “Mi Tierra,” and more. The concert was directed by Sergio Trujillo.

As part of “Sunday Movies at the Palace with Lin-Manuel Miranda,” ¡Viva! Broadway and the United Palace of Cultural Arts in Washington Heights hosted a conversation with Rita Moreno and a screening of West Side Story, the 1961 film based on the legendary Broadway musical of the same title.

Broadway, AARP and the New York Times presented a panel discussion that included playwright Quiara Alegría-Hudes, performer Gabriela Garcia, composer Lin-Manuel Miranda, performer Luis Salgado and choreographer Sergio Trujillo, moderated by the Times‘s Tanzina Vega. In the Heights: In Concert

¡Viva! Broadway joined with 5000 Broadway Productions and the United Palace of Cultural Arts to present a one-night-only concert in Washington Heights. Lin-Manuel Miranda and original cast members of In the Heights reunited to perform a concert version of the 2008 Tony Award®-winning Best Musical. The event raised $92,000 for the Northern Manhattan  Arts Alliance and family theatregoing initiatives including the League’s Family First Nights program.

Broadway fans and artists gathered at Copacabana in this free, pre-theatre party sponsored by Latin Trends magazine and Chivas Regal that helped kick off Broadway Week 2013.
